Calling all classic car owners

Published: Thursday, July 2, 2009 11:15 AM EDT
Show off your classic car in the Northland Community Fourth of July Parade and receive twenty (20) $1.00 Palace Bucks, each one good for food and bowling at Columbus Square Bowling Palace (5707 Forest Hills Boulevard, 43231), courtesy of the Hadler Companies.

If you're sitting around on the 4th with nothing to do, come to the Parade information desk (at Huntington Bank near Karl and Morse) on Saturday morning by 10:30 am, sign up to be in the Parade and receive your Palace Bucks!

After the Parade, join your neighbors and other classic car enthusiasts at the Bowling Palace for a closer look at the cars.  Enjoy the fun and food inside.  Our hope is this will turn into a mini, unofficial classic car show!

The Northland Community Fourth of July Parade travels 1.7 miles north on Karl Road, from Morse Road to East Dublin Granville Road, beginning at 11:00 am on Saturday, the 4th of July.  You'll need to be signed up and in line by 10:30 am.  Hundreds of people line the parade route every year to see the Parade.  Feel free to advertise your club!  People really enjoy looking at classic cars.  Bring some excitement to a great parade, get your Palace Bucks and have fun!

A Fourth of July Parade has been an annual tradition in the Northland area of northeast Columbus for 46 years, starting in Forest Park in 1963.  In 1966, the Northland Jaycees started their own Northland Parade on July 4.  These two events merged in 1987 and the Parade was sponsored in subsequent years by the Northland Jaycees, Forest Park and the village of Minerva

Park.

In 2001, the Northland Community Council (NCC) assumed responsibility for the event from the Jaycees.  As always, this year's Parade will include a military flyover, marching bands, fire and other emergency vehicles and floats and entries from a variety of communities and organizations throughout Northland and northeast Columbus.  The Grand Marshal of the 2009 Parade is Columbus Chief of Police Walter L. Distelzweig.
